The R&B singer had been scheduled to face criminal charges at the start of the month in New York but the date has been postponed until December 17.
The star is accused of tossing a teenager, Anthony Smith, into the crowd during a show in Fiskill, New York on June 3, 2007. Akon ordered security to pull him on stage after he apparently heckled the singer.
Akon then allegedly picked Smith up onto his shoulders and threw him into the crowd, where he landed on another person, causing concussion.
The star has pleaded not guilty to the charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and second degree harassment.
