The actor, who supported Obama throughout his campaign, said that he welled up after friend Art Linson started to weep over the result.
"He cried. It was ridiculous. He cried," he told The Sunday Times Magazine.
When pushed over his own emotions, De Niro confessed: "I did [cry]. I did."
The Taxi Driver actor also claimed that a win for Obama's political rival John McCain would have had terrible ramifications. "It would have been a disaster for our country, and the world, if it had gone the other way. Period. Thank God."
