Rachel Weisz has signed up to play Blanche DuBois in a West End version of A Streetcar Named Desire.

The actress will begin rehearsals next June, with performances scheduled to start at London's Donmar Warehouse in late July.

Weisz, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for The Constant Gardener, was last seen on stage seven years ago in the Almeida's The Shape Of Things.

Streetcar has not been performed on the London stage since 2002, when Glenn Close starred at the National's Lyttelton Theatre.
