Bremner: UK suffering "character crunch"

Rex Features

Rory Bremner has claimed that Britain is suffering from a shortage of political characters to impersonate.

The comic told The Mirror that he finds modern politicians more and more difficult to mimic.

He said: "I don't know about the credit crunch - we are in a character crunch at the moment.

"How am I going to do people like John Denham, Andrew Lansley and Nick Clegg?

"David Cameron, very hard to do. He's got a very plain voice. He does a better Tony Blair than I do. I just do the voice, David Cameron is doing the whole career."

Bremner revealed the problem at the annual Plain English Campaign awards in London, held as part of a campaign to encourage public bodies to communicate better.
