Nicole Kidman has broken an Aboriginal taboo against women playing the didgeridoo after using the instrument on German TV.

The actress blew into a didgeridoo on the show Wetten Dass...? while promoting latest film Australia with co-star Hugh Jackman.

The stunt has been blasted by an Aboriginal cultural leader, who warned that breaking the taboo means the 41-year-old star will not have any more children.

"People are going to see Nicole playing it and think it's all right," Richard Green told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"I will guarantee she has no more children. It is not meant to be played by women as it will make them barren."

Kidman gave birth to her first biological child Sunday Rose with husband Keith Urban in July.

She previously suggested that she may give up acting in order to have more children.
