Published Friday, Dec 26 2008, 06:00 GMT | By Alex Fletcher
Originally a popular singer in Northern Ireland, Gloria Hunniford made her broadcasting breakthrough in the 1970s with A Taste Of Hunni on radio and Good Evening Ulster on the TV. Her big break came in 1981 when she filled in for Jimmy Young on Radio 2 in 1981. Hunniford went on to become the first woman to have her own daily show on the station.

Gloria's TV work has included stints on shows such as Wogan, Songs Of Praise, Aspel & Company and Through The Keyhole. The much-loved presenter has also dedicated a large chunk of her later life working on the Caron Keating Foundation, which was set up following the death of her daughter from cancer in 2004. Hunniford, 68, is still regularly on the box and is currently filming new episodes of Cash In The Attic and Castle In The Country with fellow broadcasting pro John Craven.

DS presents a pictorial celebration of the radio and television personality Gloria Hunniford.
