'Carry On' star Jack Douglas dies, 81

Carry On star Jack Douglas has died at the of 81.

The comedy actor, who rose to fame playing stuttering Alf Ippititimus, died on the Isle of Wight this morning after battling an undisclosed illness.

Phil Dale, the star's agent and close friend, said: "[He] was one of those lovely people who came from the world of comedy and understood comedy timing in the sense of the old British tradition of farce."

Ippititimus, famous for his "Pwaay!" catchphrase, initially appeared in a cameo role but eventually became the leading character in Carry On Emmanuelle.

Douglas appeared in eight Carry On films, two Christmas specials and one television series. He also guest starred in The Goodies and The Benny Hill Show.
