Cage fighter named 'Zoo's coolest man'

Mixed martial artist Michael Bisping has beaten off competition from Lewis Hamilton and Noel Gallagher to top a 100 Coolest British Men Of The Year poll.

The Clitheroe-born Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star ranked first in a survey of around 50,000 Zoo magazine readers. F1 champion Hamilton finished second, followed by Oasis singer Gallagher.

"I am totally shocked, but honoured to be voted the coolest man in the UK by Zoo readers," said Bisping.

Actors Jason Statham and Daniel Craig came fourth and fifth respectively, with boxer Joe Calzaghe and adventurer Bear Grylls also making the top ten.

Zoo editor Ben Todd said: "Although most people will be surprised at this year's winner, the result reveals the growing influence that UFC is having on young men in Britain, with the sport now seriously rivalling boxing in the popularity stakes.

"Intriguingly, the poll also suggests a resurgence in respect for hard men, perhaps due to the harsher economic times, and the death of the metrosexual with Bisping, Calzaghe and Bear Grylls all featuring in the top ten."
