Winslet "good friends" with ex

Kate Winslet's ex-husband Jim Threapleton has said that the pair remain firm friends following their divorce in 2001.

The 34-year-old, who has since remarried, said he is proud of the way the couple and their new partners have collectively raised their daughter Mia, who was born in 2000.

He told The Telegraph that Winslet's current husband Sam Mendes is a "fantastic" person to be in Mia's life.

"Sam and I went out for a few beers together very early on to make sure there was no stand-offishness," he said. "No-one wanted a situation where I'd pitch up in a car and honk the horn and wait for Mia to be delivered.

"There was a very amiable attempt to find a new future for all of us, which isn't an easy thing to do, but I'm proud of what Kate has done with Mia and what we do collectively."

Winslet, who met Threapleton while working on Hideous Kinky, married Mendes in 2003 She gave birth to their son Joe in the same year.
