Director Robert Mulligan dies, aged 83

To Kill A Mockingbird director Robert Mulligan has died, aged 83.

Mulligan, who received an Oscar nomination for the 1962 classic, died at his Connecticut home on Friday after suffering a heart attack.

The New York-born director, who began his career working on live television, directed over 20 feature films, including Bloodbrothers and The Man In The Moon, which marked the film debut of Reese Witherspoon.

Throughout his career Mulligan directed some of the top names in Hollywood, including Paul Newman, Steve McQueen and Sidney Poitier.

To Kill A Mockingbird, which won three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for star Gregory Peck, remains his best known work.
