According to the Hollywood icon's former personal assistant Alice Marchak, Brando was so deep in the financial mire during his later life that he tried to get work on the shopping channel.
Marchak wrote in her book Marlon And Me: "He called to tell me he was in dire financial trouble. Marlon regaled me with money-making schemes.
"He wanted to sell a product on QVC, possibly earthquake-proof houses or imported silk. He wanted to sell a DVD of acting classes called Lying For A Living.
"Marlon was serious about QVC. He had a meeting with a woman from the channel in 2003 and committed to appearing, disguised in women's clothes and a grey wig."
Brando, star of On The Waterfront and The Godfather, died the following year at the age of 80. His fortune had allegedly dwindled to just $12,000.
