Winslet 'fell for Mendes at first sight'

Kate Winslet has admitted that she fell in love with husband Sam Mendes when they first met.

Speaking to Elle, the actress said that finding love again was "the last thing I expected" after the break-up of her marriage to Jim Threapleton.

She said: "I woke up in the middle of the night after we'd met and I had this feeling in my stomach. I just knew what it was. I didn't want to stop being with him. I know categorically I'm married to the right man.

"I feel understood by him, completely known. And I get the enormity of what I'm saying, which is why I'm so grateful."

Winslet related working under Mendes's direction for Revolutionary Road to adding "the final piece of the jigsaw" to their relationship.

"It was a very special feeling to watch him do what he does and feel slightly awed and incredibly proud," she said.
