Eva Mendes has revealed that she is making an effort to be more picky over the film roles she takes.
The actress, who appears in comic book movie The Spirit this month, said that she likes to mix up the parts she plays in order to expand her repertoire.
"It's been a conscious choice to say 'no' to a lot of things I've been offered and to really be selective. It's not so much that I want to do serious films. It's about having range," she told The Mirror.
"I loved doing The Spirit, that femme fatale role. It's a fantasy. I want to be able to do the serious, the fantastical and then the dark comedy."
Mendes added that she is pleased to have managed to keep her feet on the ground despite her fame, saying: "I just thank my lucky stars for that. There's a lot of lost little souls in Hollywood, a lot of young women who have so much, who come into fame and fortune when they're young, and it's very difficult to handle that."
