Shepard arrested for drink-driving

American actor and playwright Sam Shepard has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

The 65-year-old was caught by police driving at 46 mph in a 30 mph zone in the town of Normal, Illinois. Shepard's blood alcohol was measured at twice the legal limit, police Lt. Mark Kotte said.

The actor, who was later released on bail, told authorities that he had been at a nearby pub before leaving to drive back to his Kentucky home.

Shepard has appeared in The Notebook, Black Hawk Down and The Right Stuff. He is the long-term partner of actress Jessica Lange.
