Winehouse drops drug appeal

Amy Winehouse has dropped her appeal against a fine she received for drugs possession in Norway.

The 25-year old and husband Blake Fielder-Civil were arrested in the city of Bergen in October 2007 after they were found with seven grams of marijuana in their hotel room.

The couple were held overnight, fined £294 each and released but the singer later appealed against the fine, alleging that police had made mistakes in their handling of the case.

However, Winehouse's lawyer Ole Kvelstad told The AP that the star has now chosen to accept the fine, saying: "After a careful review of the whole matter, they decided to drop the appeal."

Norwegian police prosecutor Rudolf Christoffersen confirmed that the appeal had been withdrawn and neither Winehouse nor Fielder-Civil will be required to appear in court.
