The decision was approved yesterday after the property's current owner, real-estate tycoon Yu Panglin, decided to donate the estate to the city, according to the South China Morning Post.
Lee spent the last years of his life at the two-storey, $13 million (£8.7 million) townhouse, known as the Crane's Nest, located in the suburban area of Kowloon.
"Both sides have now reached a consensus to go ahead and essentially proceed with this good plan," Yu told reporters after meeting with government officials. "I'm 88 years old now and hope that while I'm still alive I'll be able to see this Bruce Lee museum completed."
A spokesperson for Hong Kong's Commerce and Economic Development Bureau would only say that the "original outlook of the building and its features" would be preserved.
However, Yu revealed that certain parts of Lee's home would be recreated, including his training studio and his study.
Lee died from swelling of the brain in 1973, aged 32.
