Piven's Broadway exit under investigation

Jeremy Piven's decision to withdraw from a Broadway play is to be investigated by the show's backers, according to the New York Post.

The Entourage star dropped out of Speed-The-Plow on doctor's orders last month, citing mercury poisoning as a result of eating too much sushi.

However, the production's backers are reportedly suspicious and have asked for a full investigation into his medical problems.

Under the Actors' Equity contract, the producers are legally entitled to have the star's medical records examined and if they suspect fraud, sue him.

Speed-The-Plow was reportedly just one week away from returning its purported $3.5 million (£2.3 million) investment when Piven left.
