32-year-old Brancato was last month acquitted of the second-degree murder of Officer Daniel Enchautegui in 2005, while accomplice Steven Armento received a life sentence.
However, Justice Martin Marcus of State Supreme Court in the Bronx has now handed Brancato the ten-year prison term for attempted robbery. Prosecutors argued that the actions of the actor, who played Matthew Bevilaqua in the hit gangster series, led to the death of the officer.
Brancato, a confessed drug user, got his break in acting at the age of 15 when he portrayed Calogero Anello in A Bronx Tale opposite Robert De Niro.
