David Beckham's great-great grandfather was a binman, according to a census from 1911.

The footballer's relative is listed as a "scavenger" in the census, published online today.

Other ancestors of famous people listed include Amy Winehouse's great-great grandfather Abraham Granish, who is described as a "hawker" from the Spitalfields area of London.

Authors Agatha Christie and Virginia Woolf are both listed in the census, the former describing herself as a "journalist".

The website has already received 5.4 million page views and has carried out 260,000 searches of Britain's population in 1911.

"As well as helping people trace their ancestors, these records shed more light on our ancestors' day-to-day lifestyles, providing a snapshot of a day in their lives," said commercial director Elaine Collins in a statement.
