The actor, who plays investigator Bobby Dawson, has revealed that he was recently travelling on a subway at around 2am when he was threatened by a man who attempted to steal his laptop.
Speaking to the New York Daily News, McCullouch said: "I guess he thought he’d grab it and dash out the door, but I gave him a body shot to the chest. I don’t know why I did that except that I box three or four days a week and had just been in the ring about eight hours before.
"[Then] he pulled a kitchen knife out of a black plastic bag. This thing must have had a blade 10 inches long. The other passengers started running out the door and into the next car."
The 41-year-old said that the fight was eventually stopped after passengers raised the alarm and the police arrived.
James Torres, 39, was arrested at the scene and later charged with robbery, assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. He has been scheduled to appear in court on March 23.
This is the second time that McCullouch has been a victim of mugging. In 2001, he was robbed at gunpoint while in Atlanta.
