Paramedic denies Travolta extortion plot

WENN

A paramedic has reportedly denied attempting to extort $25 million (£18 million) from John Travolta following the death of his teenage son.

Magistrate Carolita Bethel said that Tarino Lightbourne, 47, pleaded not guilty yesterday to attempting to extort and conspiracy to extort from the actor, reports The AP.

Prosecutor Bernard Turner is objecting to bail, claiming that police are looking for a "certain document" and believe they may not find it if Lightbourne is released.

A Bahamian senator also accused of extortion has resigned and vowed to prove her innocence.

Travolta's 16-year-old son Jett died at the family's home in the Bahamas on January 2 after suffering a seizure. Details of the alleged plot have not been made public.
