The actress was ridiculed by O'Reilly for apparently confusing Sweden with Switzerland when referring to a journalist's "neutral" stance over the inauguration of President Obama.
When Alba asked a reporter at the event what he liked most about Obama and he refused to answer, she joked: "That's it, be neutral. Be Sweden about it."
Website TMZ later ridiculed the actress for her 'mistake' and O'Reilly described her as "misguided" on his Fox News show.
"I find it depressing that, in the midst of perhaps the most salient time in our country's history, individuals are taking it upon themselves to encourage negativity and stupidity," Alba wrote on her MySpace blog.
"Last week, Mr Bill O'Reilly and some really classy sites insinuated I was dumb by claiming Sweden was a neutral country. I appreciate the fact that [O'Reilly] is a news anchor and that gossip sites are inundated with intelligent reporting, but seriously people... it's so sad to me that you think the only neutral country during WWII was Switzerland.
"I appreciate the name calling and the accurate reporting. Keep it up!"
TMZ recently issued an 'apology' to the actress, saying: "She is absolutely correct. Sweden was a neutral country... 60 years ago. We apologise for not considering the political climate of the world in 1942 when we suggested she may have meant, 'Be Switzerland' - a country that is currently neutral."
