The Coldplay frontman was performing on Ross's Radio 2 show when he played a song about the messages that Ross and Russell Brand left on Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs's answering machine.
Martin reportedly sang: "Everyone thinks you're great except for some idiots who just shouldn't be listening." He added that he wanted the song "to represent the people in the nation that love you, which is a lot of people".
According to the Mail On Sunday, Ross sniggered at the tune, prompting Mediawatch UK to claim that it demonstrated that the 48-year-old did not understand why he had offended.
The presenter sparked further controversy last week by making a joke about having sex with an OAP.
