Lachey defends Simpson's figure

Nick Lachey has joined the army of celebrities rushing to defend Jessica Simpson's apparent weight gain.

The singer, who divorced Simpson in 2006, told Entertainment Tonight that he could not understand the media's fascination with his ex-wife's figure.

"I think it's ridiculous that people are making such a big deal about it," he said.

"As I said earlier, I wish her nothing but the best. I hope she doesn't get down on this because it's not worth it."

Simpson attracted tabloid criticism after recent photos of her performing in Florida revealed a curvier figure.

Last week, her younger sister Ashlee revealed that she was "disgusted" by the media and public reaction to the pictures.

Other stars to have spoken out in support of Simpson include supermodel Heidi Klum, brother-in-law Pete Wentz and reality star Kim Kardashian.
