According to TMZ, the pilot carrying the Motley Crue drummer was told to land at the nearest airport after LAPD accused him of flying too close to an official police chopper.
"[The pilot] was flying rather erratically, and he did get close to one of our helicopters," LAPD officer Karen Smith told E! News.
"The tower over the area was concerned about his flying, too."
The pilot, who has not been named, landed at Van Nuys airport in Los Angeles and was later detained, investigated and released without charge.
Smith revealed that Lee, who was riding shotgun, was not questioned because "he had nothing to do with the situation".
