IOC accepts Phelps 'pot pipe' apology

The International Olympic Committee has said that it has no reason to doubt US swimmer Michael Phelps's sincere regret after he was pictured with a pot pipe.

The 23-year-old apologised for his "regrettable behaviour" after the photo appeared in the News Of The World, although he did not say whether he had taken drugs.

The IOC said that it had no reason to doubt Phelps's sincerity or commitment to acting as a role model, according to the BBC.

The picture was reportedly taken at a student party three months after Phelps won eight gold medals at last year's Beijing Olympics. The most successful Olympian of all time was on an extended training break at the time.
