Stephen Fry tweets from stuck lift

Stephen Fry turned to the internet for company last night after becoming stuck in a lift on the 26th floor of London's Centre Point tower.

Fry, who had participated in a "Meet the Author" event at Apple's store on Regent Street earlier in the evening, kept his 108,500 Twitter followers updated as the incident unfolded.

"Ok. This is now mad," he said just before 11pm. "I am stuck in a lift on the 26th floor of Centre Point. Hell's teeth. We could be here for hours. Arse, poo and widdle."

A picture was taken and posted to TwitPic while engineers rectified the problem. Fry and several other occupants of the lift were released approximately 30 minutes later.

"We're free!" he exclaimed. "Nice men from Thyssen freed us. Paramount Club had champagne for us at the bottom. I'm allergic, but nice thought."

This morning, Fry thanked those who tweeted about the incident for keeping "the Blitz spirit alive".
