The organisation that slammed Miley Cyrus for pulling an allegedly racist pose has described her apology as "inadequate".

The Hannah Montana star was criticised by the Asian Pacific American community group Organisation OCA after a photograph surfaced showing her pulling her eyes into a slant.

Writing on her website, Cyrus insisted that the pose had been taken out of context, saying: "In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face. When did that become newsworthy?"

However, speaking to Celebuzz, the executive director of the OCA George Wu slammed the statement as being "inadequate", saying: "It's not a real apology. We're not backing down without a fuller apology."

The president of the Asian American Justice Centre, Karen Narasaki, called the explanation "disappointing", adding: "It sounds like Ms. Cyrus doesn’t understand the pain felt by those of us who grew up being taunted by insensitive people making fun of our ethnicity by making exactly these kinds of faces and gesture."
