Martin 'too exhausted' for groupies

Steve Martin has claimed that he was too tired to make use of groupies at the height of his stand-up career.

The 63-year-old, whose new movie The Pink Panther 2 is released this Friday, told Empire that he found female attention irritating as it would prevent him from getting any sleep.

He explained: "When I started playing stadiums, I did have girls trying to get into my room a couple of times. But it wasn't a fun thing like you'd imagine. You don't want someone knocking at your door at 2am when you're exhausted and trying to get to sleep."

The comic disclosed that the last time he was propositioned by a groupie was in 1978.
