The 38-year-old journalist, who is about to return to the studio to cover Sian Williams's maternity leave on BBC One's Breakfast Time, said that she has started thinking about having children for the first time.
She told the Mail On Sunday: "Although I love the idea of being a mum and being there for my children as my mum was for me, I suppose I felt for a long time that I couldn't quite have it all with the career as well."
Silverton, who also presents Big Cat Live, explained that a man she dated last year has now come back into her life. "He has just returned from working in Afghanistan. So if this is my year for settling down, it would be nice," she said. "Because I love my work, it doesn't feel like work to me - so it is quite hard to get the balance right."
She added that her addiction to adventure and adrenaline should not be off-putting to the right man. "I've dated quite a lot of military guys and if a man is secure in himself, he quite likes the challenge of someone who's independent," she said.
