Seacrest: 'I lie to stars on red carpet'

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest has admitted that he sometimes lies to stars on the red carpet.

The TV presenter, who will be broadcasting live from this year's Oscars, confessed that he often praises celebrities' outfits without actually looking at them.

"Sometimes I find myself saying: 'That looks...' and sometimes 'great' comes out before I can process I've said it, or 'fantastic'," he explained.

"And then I watch it back - and it does look different on television - and think that was not a 'great', that was a 'less than great'."

Discussing his style predictions for tomorrow night, he said: "I think that it will be a more subdued Oscars - I think it will be a bit more modest than it has been in years past.

"You'll see probably less really expensive jewels on some of the women - that's about all I know about the girls' fashion! - and I think it'll be a little understated this year."
