Everett: 'Sexuality killed my career'
Rupert Everett has claimed that his sexuality prevented him from having a more successful career in Hollywood.

The actor said that offers for new projects fell when he announced that he is gay in 1989.

"I wanted to be a movie star. I had a difficult set of circumstances to deal with, particularly for a movie career. Being gay, really. It just doesn't work," he told The New York Times.

Everett, who was cast as gay in both The Next Big Thing and My Best Friend's Wedding, added that sexuality should not be considered when casting for roles.

"As actors we don't play gay, straight... we play human beings," he said.
