Elbow: 'Reality TV cheapens life'
Elbow frontman Guy Garvey has criticised the country's obsession with reality television.

The singer claims that there is trend of "general cruelty" that runs through most entertainment shows.

"I find it a bit disturbing. It cheapens life. I don't need it in my head," he told Q magazine.

"There are plenty of great things to look at rather than Timmy Mallet eating kangaroo penises. Why would I want to watch that?"

Garvey went on to admit his surprise that the group's single 'One Day Like This' had become so popular on television shows.

"It's astonishing at first, then it's really amusing. It's turned up in the jungle [on I'm A Celebrity...] and on the Big Brother finale and on Top Gear.

"It was at the end of the Olympics coverage every day, and the FA Cup, and the European Cup final. And we're the only band in the world that doesn't like football."

Elbow, who won the best British band gong at last week's Brits, are currently recording their new album on the Scottish island of Mull.
