Edge: 'Bono was right on Bush meeting'

He told XFM that he was initially unhappy about the prospect of the singer posing for pictures with the former US President.
The Edge said: "Famously, I tried to persuade him not to do a photograph with George Bush because I thought people would be confused and it would send out a weird message.
"Again, he had thought it through and realised there was an opportunity there to get the Bush administration to step up and do something unprecedented for Africa.
"It turned out [Bono] was absolutely right. Whatever the price he had to pay for the custard pies thrown by U2 fans and people who didn't like Bush, I think it was worth it in the end."
Last year, drummer Larry Mullen Jr. revealed that he cringes when he sees Bono with the likes of Bush and Tony Blair, whom he called "war criminals".
