Chaplin starred with Barbara Streisand in Funny Girl on Broadway and won his Tony for the 1950s musical Bells Are Ringing.
He died due to complications from a stroke, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Chaplin served in WWII before co-founding the Circle Theatre in LA and entering the stage and screen industry.
He went on to appear in the last film his father directed, 1967's A Countess From Hong Kong.
