Sean 'Diddy' Combs has defended his decision to lend his Miami home to Rihanna and Chris Brown during their "dark time".

The couple were reported to have rekindled their relationship during a brief stay at the rapper's mansion, less than a month after Brown was arrested in relation to an alleged attack on Rihanna.

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Combs said: "It's my house, and I'm allowed to give my house to whoever I want to give my house to. I don't cast a stone - cast judgment on anybody.

"If friends ask me for a favour, then I'm going to be there for a favour as long as I know the energy of the favour is positive."

He continued: "It was a dark time for them and I was there as more of a support. We need to pray for them, and we need to do things to support them."

However, he insisted that it is "[never] right for anybody to hit anybody", adding: "We know sometimes relationships get ugly...We don't know exactly what's going on. There are two young individuals involved."

Last week, R&B star Brown was formally charged with two felonies in relation to the alleged assault. Experts have claimed that the case against him hinges on how much co-operation Rihanna is willing to offer.
