The comedy actress, who has collaborated with Tom on the Comic Relief charity single 'Islands In The Stream', admitted that she was initially concerned about working with the veteran pop singer.
"When I first met Tom Jones, I thought he might've been a little bit arrogant," she told This Morning. "You know, he's a big star and he's not gonna want to be that friendly...but he's a lovely guy, a real Ponty boy and very down to earth.
"We saw him in concert out in Vegas too - the energy of the man! He's a brilliant performer."
Meanwhile, Ruth also spoke about progress on the third series of Gavin & Stacey, which she is "currently writing".
"The BBC always wanted a third series but we didn't want to short change people and we wanted to know that it's going to be good," she said.
"So we went out for dinner one night, and we said, 'Right, can we do a third series?', and we talked about what we think can happen and we think we've got a good place to go with it."
