The Beverly Hills Police Department released a statement which confirmed that police are hunting the 22-year-old.
The statement read: "The $50,000 (£36,000) warrant issued by the Beverly Hills Superior Court stems from a May 2007 arrest of Miss Lohan for DUI and hit-and-run.
"The circumstances leading to the issuance of the warrant by the court are not readily available at this time. It is our hope that Miss Lohan will surrender herself so that this matter will be resolved in a timely manner."
Lohan was arrested twice in 2007, and was placed on probation for 36 months and sentenced to 24 hours in jail as part of a plea deal. She was also ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol-education programme and to perform 10 days of community service.
An L.A. attorney told Hollyscoop that the warrant could have been due to failure to meet with her probation officer or failure to complete a mandatory drug test.
