Lights at 52 venues were put out for two minutes over the space of an hour in honour of the 45-year-old, who died this week following a skiing accident in Quebec.
The Society Of London Theatre president Nica Burns told PA: "This is a gesture of condolence at this sad time, and a mark of respect for both Natasha Richardson and her immediate family, and for the Redgrave family as a whole who have made such a unique contribution to British theatre."
Richardson's husband Liam Neeson watched as Broadway held a similar tribute to the award-winning star last night. Her mother Vanessa Redgrave and actress sister Joely Richardson are also thought to have attended.
The family gathered for a wake at the American Irish Historical Society in Manhattan earlier today ahead of a private funeral service on Sunday. Celebrities including Lauren Bacall, Uma Thurman and Diane Sawyer attended to pay their respects.
