Cleese's divorce payments are halved

John Cleese's maintenance payments to his ex-wife have reportedly been halved as the credit crunch hits.

The Monty Python star will now pay £57,000 a month to 64-year-old Alyce Faye Eichelberger, 64, says the Sunday Mirror.

Cleese spoke out about the payments in October, claiming that to "feed the beast" he would be forced to work into his 70s.

Despite having to sell part of his property portfolio to make the payments, Cleese went on to joke that the divorce would be "worth every penny".

Cleese married Eichelberger in December 1992 and the coupled remained together for 15 years before announcing their split last January.
