The actress made the statement in a public service announcement which speaks out against supporters of the same-sex marriage ban in California, reports the Daily Star.
De Rossi and DeGeneres wed after the Supreme Court legalised same-sex unions in the state last May. However, the passing of the Proposition 8 bill in November reversed the previous ruling.
She stated in the spoof video: "When I got married, all I was thinking about was my own joy at committing to love my partner for the rest of my life. I didn't think about all the people I was hurting by getting married.
"That was selfish. So I want to apologise to all those people whose lives have been affected by me getting married."
DeGeneres was among a host of personalities who voiced their disappointment at the constitutional ban.
