Spector defence restates innocence

The defence in the Phil Spector has restated the star's innocence in his retrial for the alleged murder of actress Lana Clarkson.

The Wall Of Sound producer's lawyer Doron Weinberg outlined 14 pieces of forensic evidence that he claimed showed that Spector did not shoot Clarkson at his Los Angeles home in 2003.

Weinberg said that the case must "start with the science and forensics" and called for a mistrial, arguing that the prosecution had focused on Spector's character rather than the evidence.

Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler denied this request.

Weinberg added: "Mr. Spector did not kill Lana Clarkson. That's what the evidence shows."

The defence has consistently claimed that Clarkson died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In its own closing statements, the prosecution said that Spector had a "disregard for human life".
