Paul Gascoigne has said that he once locked a teddy bear in a safe out of fear that it was watching him.

The former footballer made the admission on Watch talkshow Richard And Judy's New Position, which aired last night.

Gascoigne said: "I put the Bible in the safe because I thought it was listening to my conversation.

"So I'm looking at this teddy bear and the teddy bear obviously is still, but when I'm moving I think it's staring at us for no reason, so I stuck the teddy bear in with the Bible and locked the safe."

He added that the experience was "scary" and that he also had believed that his smoke alarms were "spy cameras".

Gascoigne also revealed that he had phoned Richard Madeley when he "felt lonely inside" and appreciated that the chat show host had returned his call.
