The I Love New York 2 star proposed to the actress and singer last September on her 27th birthday. A month later, Hudson's world was rocked by tragedy when her mother, brother and nephew were shot dead in their Chicago hometown.
In a pre-taped performance for a future appearance on American Idol, People reports that host Ryan Seacrest asked the singer if she had set a date to tie the knot.
"Yeah, but it's a secret," she replied. "I can't tell anybody."
Hudson shot to stardom after becoming a finalist in season three of the US reality show.
