Langsford, Holmes announce engagement

This Morning presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have announced that they are engaged.

Appearing on the ITV1 show today, the couple were forced to admit the news after guest Hannah Spearritt congratulated them on air and viewers noticed Langsford's diamond engagement ring.

Writing on her official website, Langsford said: "Well, it’s finally happened... the man of my dreams has asked me to marry him! After 12 years together, with only the odd cross word (!) Eamonn has decided to make an honest woman of me."

Holmes, who has a seven-year-old son with Langsford, reportedly popped the question during a romantic break to celebrate her birthday last week.

In a statement, he said: "Quite simply, I adore Ruth. Ever since I first met her I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I’m slightly embarrassed I haven’t got round to it before this but one day last week I looked at her across a crowded room and fell in love all over again."

Langsford added: "I can’t stop admiring my beautiful engagement ring which we chose together - I’m probably the oldest ‘bride to be’ in Britain but today I feel like I’m sixteen again!"
