Madonna lands in Malawi for adoption bid

Madonna reportedly arrived in Africa yesterday ahead of a court hearing to decide if she can adopt a second Malawian child.

The singer has already filed the legal papers necessary for the process, and a four-year-old girl named Mercy James has been chosen from the same orphanage as the 50-year-old star's son, David Banda.

An airport official told Reuters that the singer arrived in the nation's capital Lilongwe late on Sunday and was whisked off in a convoy.

Court clerks confirmed that Madonna or her representatives were expected to appear in court today for the adoption proceedings. Madonna was divorced last year from British film director Guy Ritchie and is already a mother-of-three.
