Ricky Gervais is quitting stand-up comedy next year.

The comedian, 43, is working on one final live show called 'Science,' after which he'll hang up his microphone.

"I'm twice as good as when I did my first show, Animals," said Gervais. "I'm not as good as Jerry Seinfeld, which is the dream, but I don't think I ever will be. But I do feel that I look the part now. I walk on like a proper comedian and do a proper stand-up show. That's the challenge - to get better at something I'm not great at.

"Now I'll finish this tour, do one more stand-up show next year, which I've already started writing - it's called Science. And that'll be it for me and stand-up."

Gervais is also working on a new BBC sitcom called Extras.
