According to The Guardian, the Wrestler star had wanted to take part in a match at the annual pay-per-view, but the insurance company behind his latest movie Iron Man 2 was reluctant.
Speaking to reporters before the event in Houston, Texas, Rourke said: "I'm doing Iron Man 2 now, and the insurance company said under no circumstances could I get into the ring."
He added: "My agents said it would be detrimental to my career to take the focus off of acting after making a comeback in The Wrestler."
However, the 56-year-old eventually did enter the ring to knock out Jericho with a single punch after watching the WWE superstar defeat three of his friends - wrestling legends Jimmy Snuka, Roddy Piper and Ricky Steamboat.
