The Hannah Montana star told Good Morning America that young people should not try to live up to the artificial images of celebrities printed in the press.
Cyrus said: "I wish I could tell every little girl who looks in the mirror and says, 'I'm not beautiful,' and take them in to the process to [see] what it takes to look like that.
"They would feel so much better about themselves. It takes an hour-and-a-half before you're even there and they're working on the lighting...it's not real."
Cyrus was recently compared to classic screen icons Judy Garland and Shirley Temple by director Peter Chelsom.
