DS Icon: Roy Walker

By
Since winning TV talent show New Faces in 1997, Roy Walker has gone on to become one of the UK's most respected and highly esteemed funnymen. While many of Walker's contemporaries on hits 70s series The Comedians faded over time, the Northern Irish comic went from strength to strength thanks to his iconic quiz show Catchphrase. Walker and his computer-generated side-kick enthralled the nation between 1986 and 1999.

Walker's jolly smile, quick-fire wit and hilarious loving relationship with Mr Chips made them both a national institution. Aside from Catchphrase, work proved hard to come by for Roy in the '90s as a new wave of edgy comedians broke through into the mainstream. However, thanks to Chris Moyles's revival of Catchphrase on Radio 1 and his continual gigging for students and cruises, the UK's love affair with Walker has been revived in the past decade.
